Torpedo Bay Construction is a residential and commercial construction company based in Devonport, Auckland. The name was borrowed from the location of our first completed major project, 33 King Edward Parade, on the waterfront of Torpedo Bay, Devonport (see Case Studies).
Since that first project we have completed hundreds of projects in the wider area, ranging from minor rot repair work through to multi-million dollar re-builds and extensions.
As a result of our location and the style of houses in the immediate vicinity, our team of carpenters and our consultant & subcontractor partners have become specialists in the renovation, extension, and repair of high-end villas/bungalows and heritage-style houses.
Everything we do at Torpedo Bay Construction stems from three core values: Efficiency, Quality, and Honesty. These are not simply aspirations – they are the non-negotiable standards that guide how we work, how we live, and how we deliver every project.
We believe a well-run building project should feel organised, considered, and under control. Efficiency means more than simply working quickly - it means planning ahead, communicating clearly, and making good decisions at every stage of the project. On site, we minimise downtime, coordinate trades effectively, and keep the work progressing in the right sequence. Behind the scenes, we maintain straightforward systems and processes that support accurate estimating, procurement, scheduling, and project management. By working efficiently throughout the entire business, we reduce unnecessary delays, avoidable costs, and disruption, allowing us to deliver a smoother building experience and make the most of our clients' investment.
Quality is at the heart of everything we deliver. It starts with careful planning and continues through every stage of construction, from the workmanship on site to the way we communicate, document, and manage the project. We take pride in getting the details right, using quality materials and proven construction methods, while maintaining high standards of organisation and presentation throughout the build. We believe quality also means being responsive, keeping clients informed and following through on commitments. The result is not simply a well-built home, but a professional, transparent process that gives our clients confidence from the first conversation through to completion.
We believe trust is built through honesty, consistency, and doing what we say we will do. We aim to be straightforward with our clients at every stage of a project - particularly when things don't go exactly to plan. We communicate openly about costs, timeframes, decisions, changes, and challenges, so our clients can make informed decisions with confidence. This same standard applies to everyone we work with, including our colleagues, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants. We treat people fairly, take responsibility for our actions, and address problems openly rather than avoiding them. For us, honesty isn't simply a company value; it's the foundation of the long-term relationships we aim to build.
Jordan grew up and went to school in South Auckland, often working in his family’s precast concrete factory during the weekends and holidays, before moving down to post-earthquake Christchurch to pursue Engineering at Canterbury University, where he achieved a Bachelor of Engineering, specialising in Structural Engineering.
After graduating Jordan stayed in Christchurch and joined a local engineering consultancy where he ‘cut his teeth’ designing new high-end residential homes, new warehouses, and seismic strengthening of many of the remaining unreinforced masonry buildings (URMs) left standing around the city.
Towards the end of his tenure at the consultancy Jordan was stationed down in Invercargill as the Site Engineer for the Invercargill Central redevelopment project, a ~$250M development of the main city block, where he worked alongside the project managers and main contractor senior management to solve all manner of site-related engineering issues as they arose. It was here that Jordan ‘saw the light’, and so when he left his consultancy at the first Covid lockdown he started designing and project managing small-scale construction jobs, mainly for his family and friends.
Jordan then moved into Devonport, Auckland, to project and site manage the ~$3M development and seismic strengthening of the URM commercial building located at 33 King Edward Parade (see Case Studies), managing all aspects of the build, including all on-site works and subcontractors, the resource and building consents, documentation, finances and all of the residential and commercial tenancies within the building. It was towards the end of this project that Jordan created Torpedo Bay Construction (TBCon), with the intention of continuing to help the wider Devonport area with their general construction needs.
Since forming the general construction company in 2023, TBCon and its staff, including Jordan, have trained and upskilled significantly to focus on the carpentry/main contractor aspect of residential and small-scale commercial construction, with a particular emphasis in the renovation and extension of heritage-style bungalow & villas in the Devonport area.
Alongside his experience and engineering qualification, Jordan holds a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) certification, as do all TBCon’s Foremen, and all TBCon on-the-tools staff are either qualified carpenters (L4, BCITO) or are apprentices in the process of achieving this qualification.
